Tender Care Village Volunteers

What Volunteers Do?

Most volunteers spend one to three hours, once or twice a month, usually at a time you select. Call managers spend four hours, usually every week. We understand your time is valuable and we will be flexible with vacations and family time. We will be using a volunteer self sign-up (currently under development) which allows you to select which services best fit your schedule and interests.

We  plan on offering a wide range of services. However, we expect our largest need will be for drivers. Here is a list of the services we plan on offering.

Transportation: Drive members to medical appointments, shopping, banking, post office, other everyday errands. Visits to hair dresser, friends homes, or visiting family members in assisted living or in the hospital are also common needs.

Handyman: Help with light home maintenance both indoors and outdoors. Services may include, but are not limited to: help with gardening, raking of leaves, snow removal, gutter cleaning, hanging pictures, lifting boxes onto high shelves, seasonal household chores, changing light bulbs or batteries in smoke detectors and other jobs that require use of indoor ladders.

Technical Support: Volunteers who are "tech-savvy" will troubleshoot basic computer, Wi-Fi and printer issues. Assist with iPads, Kindles, home and cell phones, remote controls and similar gadgets.

Companionship: Social visits to chat, play a game, or offer a brief respite for a member who is the primary caregiver for a spouse.

Call Managers: Take calls from members and arrange the help they need, either from other volunteers or from a pre-screened vendor who will accept referrals.

General Support: Volunteers may water plants, help folks with mail, balancing checkbooks, pet walking or just be called on for a friendly visit.

Organizational Help: Ongoing outreach for new members, volunteers and participating vendors. Member service activities and fundraising.

There is a volunteer opportunity for everybody, so share your talents with a Tender Care member who would so appreciate your kindness.
